Dance Hall Pimps Press Kit

Lakeshore Records has confirmed that the Debut LP from the Dance Hall Pimps will be released March 6, 2012.

This record combines the Dance Hall Pimps’ swampy, rootsy, haunted garage rock tunes with New Orleans-inspired rags and romps, and musically it represents everyone in the band. Each of the six players in the Dance Hall Pimps wrote, co-wrote, or arranged at least one song on this record.

The album will include two covers as bonus tracks: I Put A Spell On You and their own unique take on a rarely-covered Lou Reed classic: Take a Walk on the Wild Side (arranged by DHP bassist Eddie Fish and producer Rob Hill).

The band has been playing regularly this fall after spending the summer in the studio, rocking venues all over Southern California such as the Rox, Max Steiner’s, and Molly Mollone’s, with an upcoming show in December at Brixton’s in Recondo Beach.

Sound

Add banjo to the moody organ and poetic vocals of the Doors, shake in the rock beats and riffs of the early Kinks and Rolling Stones, stir in the playful darkness of The Cramps, add a dash of the Preservation Hall horn section and indulge yourself in the swampy rockin’ good time spirit of the Dance Hall Pimps.

Bio

Created in February 2009 by blues singer/songwriter RJC and guitarist Jeff Jourard (formerly of The Motels), the Dance Hall Pimps is an eclectic electric show band playing original music that ranges from blistering blues to rockabilly, from groovy sinister rock to New Orleans-style stomps and a genre they like to call Gothspel.

Their inspirations include The Kinks, The Cramps, Electric Flag, and the unseen dark side of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The killer horn section of “Brother” Bruce Mann and Steve Carr is inspired by the screaming sax in X-Ray Spex and the jumpin’ horns of the Louis Jordan Orchestra. Mann also plays organ, drawing inspiration from Alan Price and Baby Face Willette, but delivering a distinct Bruce Mann style that is both melodic and percussive.

Lakeshore Records (Lakeshore Entertainment) signed the Dance Hall Pimps in 2010. The upcoming record is being produced by Grammy Winner Matt Hyde (Porno for Pyros, Cypress Hill) and Rob Hill (Korn, Soul Assassins, Xzibit, Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, Queen, Jackson Browne: Rob on Wikipedia).
